L1’s founder, Tim Rees, completed his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at the University of Waterloo in 2011, specializing in Fluid Mechanics and Nonlinear Waves.  Tim’s interest in the topic grew from a lifetime spent in the water, as a competitive swimmer, wakeboarder, and whitewater kayaker.  The magic of moving water never ceases to amaze.

The rigorous academic training is extremely useful when it comes to analyzing fluid motions in devices and open environments.  There is an endless opportunity to exploit the phenomena of fluid motion in physical systems, but doing it well requires more than just advanced CFD software, it requires intuition and extensive analytical experience.

The L1 team is currently working on design projects related to heat transfer through a convective process.  This requires a mix of experimental work, analytical calculations, and simulation.  More details to come as the project matures.
